Results from the HiRes Experiment

چکیده
The High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) Experiment has been in operation in monocular mode since 1997 and in stereo mode since late 1999. The published HiRes monocular spectrum is consistent with the GZK Suppression at 10 eV and observes an ankle structure at 10 eV. The preliminary stereo spectrum is consistent with the monocular spectrum. Various anisotropy studies with both monocular and stereo data have yielded null results. However, a possible correlation between HiRes stereo events taken before Jan., 2004 and BL-Lac objects has been reported, but remains to be verified or refuted by the analysis of the Hires data taken after Feb., 2004. Composition studies of Hires stereo data shows a predominantly light composition in the energy range 1018.0−1019.3 eV. We also report on the result of the proton-air cross section measurement from the tails of the XMAX distribution.

Observation of the GZK Cutoff by the HiRes Experiment
The High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) experiment has observed the GZK cutoff. HiRes’ measurement of the flux of cosmic rays shows a sharp suppression at an energy of 6×10 eV, exactly the expected cutoff energy. We observe the “ankle” of the cosmic ray spectrum as well, at an energy of 4× 10 eV. However we cannot claim to observe the third spectral feature of the ultrahigh energy cosmic ray regi...

The atmosphere is the calorimeter for HiRes; it is also an essential part of the HiRes readout system. The monitoring of the atmosphere falls into two broad categories: the detailed characterization of the atmosphere as needed for accurate reconstruction of the uorescence light signal, and the detection and tracking of clouds, i.e. opaque or dead regions in the HiRes calorimeter. These monitori...

Preprint submitted to Elsevier Preprint 17 February 2008 We have measured the spectrum of UHE cosmic rays using the flash ADC (FADC) detector (called HiRes-II) of the High Resolution Fly’s Eye experiment running in monocular mode. We describe in detail the data analysis, development of the Monte Carlo simulation program, and results. We also describe the results of our other detector, HiRes-I. ...
متن کامل30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Search for Intermediate-Scale Anisotropy by the HiRes Experiment
The HiRes collaboration has searched for intermediate-scale anisotropy of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays in two ways: first a search for variation with declination of the flux of cosmic rays, and second in their arrival directions. The data of the HiRes-II detector was used in the search.
متن کاملEv with Hires Stereo
We present the results of a search for small-scale anisotropy in the distribution of arrival directions of cosmic rays above 10 19 eV measured in stereo by the High Resolution Fly's Eye (HiRes) experiment. Performing an autocorrelation scan in energy and angular separation, we find that the strongest correlation signal in the HiRes stereo data set recorded between December 1999 and January 2004...
